Hannah's hometown

My hometown is named Tioga, which means "peaceful valley" in a Native American language. Because my hometown is extremely small (only ~1200 people), I don't miss it too much. I mostly just miss my family. However, Tioga does have several incredibly beautiful features that Seattle lacks. The first one relates to the horizon. Since the land in North Dakota is so flat, the sunsets and sunrises are incredible. You can watch the sun go down for a long time. When it does slip beneath the horizon, the sky is black, not dark blue. The expanse of the sky as it is sprinkled with stars is humbling and awespiring. The other beautiful feature is the land during harvest season. At this time, the land looks like a patchwork quilt with different colored squares that are various kinds of crops that farmers have been growing. The contrast of pale golden wheat with the azure of the sky and the motion of the wheat with the wind are pictures of my hometown that I hold in my mind when I miss my family.

I'm curious what you all find beautiful about your home places.

A little bit about me....

Hello, students :)

Welcome to RWG3, Fall Quarter. Hope that the following introductions help you learn a little bit more about me and about your classmates.

I've lived in Seattle for almost 8 years now. I moved from the middle part of the U.S. At first, I didn't like living in Seattle, but now I'm a fan. Because I have been here a while, I can recommend some good places for you to visit. Some of my favorite places are the Seattle Art Museum, Presse (French food restaurant), Vivace (coffee place), Carkeek Park, the Central Library, the SIFF Cinema, and Eva (European restaurant). I hope that you will discover some favorite places of your own during your time here.

This summer I traveled to Costa Rica. It was my first time visiting a Spanish-speaking country. Spanish is my second language, so I understand how you feel as you are learning. There were times when I was totally confused or tired of listening all day in Spanish. Still, though, this experience was amazing: we visited hot springs near a live volcano, the cloud forest, and warm beaches and jungles. Also, I got to snorkeling for the first time ever. I actually saw fish that looked like fish from Finding Nemo. :) I hope to return to Costa Rica someday.

Okay, that's all for now about me. Write you more later!
